If you’re ready to unlock the extra features in Windows 11 Pro, follow these step-by-step instructions to upgrade your edition of Windows 11 quickly and easily.
Step 1: Check Your Current Windows 11 Version
Before you start the upgrade, it’s important to check your current version of Windows 11. Here’s how you can do it:
Right-click the Start menu and select Settings.
Scroll down and select About in the left panel.
Under Windows specifications, you will see your current Windows edition listed (either Home or Pro).
Once you’ve confirmed that you’re running Windows 11 Home, you can proceed with the upgrade to Windows 11 Pro.
Step 2: Open Command Prompt and Use the CHANGEPK Command
The CHANGEPK command allows you to upgrade to Windows 11 Pro without a full reinstallation. Here’s how to use it:
Press Win + S and type Command Prompt.
Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
In the Command Prompt window, type the following command:
changepk.exe /ProductKey XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
Replace the X’s with your Windows 11 Pro product key. If you need the generic product key to switch to Pro, check the video description.
Press Enter to execute the command.
Step 3: The Upgrade Process Begins
Once you’ve entered the command, Windows 11 will automatically begin the upgrade process:
The system will check the product key and initiate the upgrade.
The process typically takes a few minutes, during which your device may restart.
Windows 11 will apply the changes and switch from Home to Pro (or to another edition if you’re upgrading).
Step 4: Confirm Windows 11 Pro Installation
After the upgrade process is complete and your PC restarts, you can confirm that Windows 11 Pro has been successfully installed:
Open Settings from the Start menu.
Go to System > About.
Under Windows specifications, confirm that your Windows edition is now listed as Windows 11 Pro.
You’ve now successfully upgraded your PC to Windows 11 Pro without losing any data or needing a reinstallation.
Benefits of Upgrading to Windows 11 Pro
Upgrading to Windows 11 Pro unlocks several advanced features, including:
BitLocker encryption for extra data security.
Remote Desktop for connecting to your PC remotely.
Group Policy Editor to manage advanced system settings.
Support for Hyper-V for virtualisation.
These features make Windows 11 Pro ideal for business users, IT professionals, and power users looking for more control over their systems.
Step 5: Upgrade Other Editions of Windows 11 Without Reinstalling
The same method using the CHANGEPK command can be applied to upgrade to other editions of Windows 11, such as Enterprise or Education, without needing to reinstall the operating system or lose your files. Simply enter the correct product key for the edition you want to upgrade to, and the process will work in the same way.
Always make sure you have a valid product key before upgrading.
Your data, apps, and settings will remain unchanged during the upgrade, but it’s always a good idea to back up important files beforehand.
